Rock Hill, S.C. - The N.C. Wesleyan men's tennis team was back in action over the weekend competing at the Winthrop University Fall Invitational. Despite being the lone Division III institution among a field dominated by Division I players, the Battling Bishops continued to impress with a series of noteworthy victories. Leading the way were senior Robert Kjellberg and freshman Sebastian Sikh, who teamed for a 3-0 record in doubles play en route to the Flight A Championship.

Kjellberg/Sikh's road to the title included wins over players from Appalachian State (8-6), Presbyterian (8-3) and host Winthrop (8-4). Also performing well in doubles were Fabio Pereira and Eduardo Ugalde, who reached the backdraw finals of Flight B after knocking off Jordan Hart and Evan Watkins of Davidson College, 8-7.

Elsewhere in doubles play, Philipp Vylegzhanin and Ben Tolhurst reached the quarterfinals of Flight C after posting an 8-4 victory over Presbyterian's Will Baird and Steven Weaver.

In singles action, Sikh went 2-1 in the main draw of Flight A, posting wins over players from Norfolk State and George Washington. After an opening round loss, Kjellberg bounced back to reach the flight's backdraw championship with wins over representatives from Presbyterian and UNC Asheville.

Pereira posted a pair of wins in Flight B, earning straight-set wins over players from Applachian State and Presbyterian, while Vylegzhanin, Tolhurst and Gleb Gisis each picked up a victory in Flight C. Freshmen Mark Sokolov and Tim White also performed well for the Bishops, reaching the semifinals of Flight D with straight-set wins over players from Limestone and UNC Asheville.

Congratulations to all of our Bishop players on their stellar performances!
