Kjellberg Shines, Bishops Fall Short versus #2 Emory

Rock Hill, S.C. - Senior Robert Kjellberg continued his stellar season on Wednesday afternoon, knocking off top-seeded Alex Ruderman of #2 Emory University in three sets (1-6, 6-5, 7-5). By defeating Ruderman, who is currently the #1 player in the Atlantic South, Kjellberg remains undefeated versus nationally-ranked opponents this spring.  The #25 Bishops eventually dropped the match by a 6-3 score, but narrowly missed the upset in close losses at #2 doubles and #5 singles.

Playing the match at Winthrop University, Wesleyan took an early  2-1 lead in doubles play. Kjellberg teamed with freshman Sebastian Sikh for an 8-6 win at #1, while the duo of Fabio Pereira/Andres Gomez cruised to an 8-0 rout at #3. The Bishops narrowly missed a doubles sweep, but Fernando Nardelli and Eduardo Ugalde dropped a tough 8-6 decision at #2.

Kjellberg was the Bishops lone winner in singles play, although Gomez turned in a solid performance at #5 and eventully fell by an 11-9 score in the third set (6-7, 7-5, 11-9). The Eagles' remaining four victories came in straights.

Wesleyan returns home next Tuesday to host USA South foe William Peace University at 3:00pm.
