Five Bishops Garner USA South Postseason Honors

Fayetteville, N.C. - The USA South Athletic Conference has announced its 2015 All-Conference awards for men's tennis with a total of 24 student-athletes earning league recognition. N.C. Wesleyan's Robert Kjellberg collected Player of the Year honors while his teammate, Sebastian Sikh, earned Rookie of the Year accolades. They were joined on the All-Conference team by Second Teamer Fabio Pereira and Honorable Mention Andres Gomez. Freshman Fernando Nardelli rounded out Wesleyan's honorees as the Bishops' representative on the league's All-Sportsmanship team.

Kjellberg, a senior from Vetlanda, Sweden, earns his second career individual conference honor after being named Rookie of the Year in 2011. Playing the entire season at the #1 singles position, Kjellberg was undefeated against USA South opposition, posting a 6-0 record. Overall, he has a 13-1 record in dual matches with his only loss coming to Division I Winthrop. The 2nd-ranked individual player in the Atlantic South Region, Kjellberg teamed with Sikh to post a 22-5 overall record at #1 doubles, which includes a 9-0 mark in league action. For his efforts this season, Kjellberg earned First Team All-Conference honors and becomes a four-time honoree.

A freshman from Eskilstuna, Sweden, Sikh has compiled a 17-7 overall singles record with a 6-0 mark in USA South action playing primarily the #2 position. At the top doubles position, Sikh teamed with Kjellberg to post a 22-5 overall record with a 9-0 mark in league action. For his efforts this season, he collected First Team All-Conference honors after being named USA South Rookie of the Week three times this spring.

Freshmen Pereira and Gomez have anchored Wesleyan's #3 and #5 singles positions this season, with each player going a perfect 8-0 in USA South action. The duo also teamed to post a 7-0 mark at #3 doubles en route to the first conference awards of their careers. Also a freshman, Nardelli went 7-0 at #4 singles and 7-1 at #2 doubles in conference play.

Rounding out the conference's individual awards was Covenant's John Hirte as Coach of the Year.

The Bishops (13-5) completed the USA South regular season with a 9-0 record and will take a 64-match winning streak versus league opponents into this weekend's conference tournament. As the top seed, Wesleyan receives a bye in the first round will take on the winner of #4 Piedmont/#5 LaGrange at 10:00am on Saturday. All matches will be played at the Slick Family Foundation Tennis Center on the NCWC campus.
