ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College men's tennis team cruised to a season-opening dual win at home on Thursday afternoon shutting out Div. II Shaw University (N.C.) 9-0.
The men were led by sophomore Roberto Puig and senior Ioannis Brokakis at #1 and #2 singles respectively as they rolled through their singles matches while also teaming up in doubles to win that 8-7. Puig won 6-0 and 6-3 while Brokakis won 7-5 and 6-3.
Freshman Jhonny Acosta (#3), senior Juan Diego Telles (#4), freshman Nikita Revin (#5), and freshman Jordan Evans (#6) also all won dominantly in singles.
Acosta and sophomore Aditya Iyer won 8-4 in #3 doubles while Telles and freshman Juan Vallejo also won 8-3 in #2 doubles.
The men improve to 3-0 on the year and will next be on the road to face challenging non-conference foe Mary Washington University (Va.) on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
