#15 Men's Tennis Suffers First Loss

Fredericksburg, Va. - The 15th ranked N.C. Wesleyan College Men's Tennis team suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday falling on the road at #20 University of Mary Washington (Va.) 7-2.

Leading the Bishops with wins were freshman Jhonny Acosta in #5 singles as he rallied back from a set down to win his match 6-7, 6-4, 10-5 while the doubles pairing of sophomore Roberto Puig and senior Ioannis Brokakis won a thrilling 8-7 bout (7-5 in the tiebreak).

Brokakis and junior Jesus Gil also suffered close singles losses with Brokakis falling in #2 singles, 4-6, 6-4, 6-10 and Gil falling in #4 singles, 4-6, 7-6, 7-10. Freshman Juan Vallejo also dropped a tough three-set #3 singles match as well (6-1, 1-6, 3-6).

The Bishops fall to 3-1 with the loss while UMW improves to 1-0. The men are next in action on Feb. 22 with a pair of matches at CNU and Johns Hopkins on friday and Saturday.
