Men's & Women's Tennis Squeak by Mount Olive

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The N.C. Wesleyan College tennis teams won two exciting duals against a tough Div. II opponent, Mount Olive University, on Tuesday afternoon at home. The men edged UMO 5-4 after winning 5 of 6 singles matches while the women won a thrilling #1 doubles bout to take the close win, 5-4 as well.

After the Bishop men dropped all three doubles matches, 8-4, 8-6, and 8-6, they found themselves trailing 3-0 heading into singles. However, the men would rally back to win 5 of 6 singles matches to take the win led bysophomores Roberto Puig, Aditya Iyer, and freshmen Juan Vallejo, Jhonny Acosta, and senior J.D. Telles.

Puig routed his foe at #2 singles 6-3, 6-0 while Iyer won a close bout 6-3, 7-6 at #3 singles. Vallejo then won 6-3, 6-4 at #4 singles while Acosta and Telles each easily won their bouts 6-2, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-3 at #5 and #6 singles.

The #15 Bishop men improve to 6-1 on the season with the hard fought win. They also edged another D-2 foe on Sunday, as they toppled West VA Wesleyan 5-4 in an exhibition match.
