Men's Tennis Shuts Out Peace and #13 Sumter

RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College men's tennis team rolled to three shutout road wins today over conference foe William Peace University and JUCO foe, #13 USC-Sumter.

Wesleyan first dominated Peace 9-0 led by a big win in #1 singles by freshman Juan Vallejo who won his bout 6-2, 6-2. Vallejo and partner, senior Giannis Brokakis also rolled to a 8-2 win in #1 doubles as well.

The doubles teams of Jordan Evans/Nadeem Jaber and the freshman duo of Ignacio Mercado/Ignacio Rodriguez also dominated their doubles foes trouncing each one 8-0. Then in singles, Evans, Jaber, Mercado, and Rodriguez as well as freshman Thomas Trotta all dominated their singles foes in combining to lose just one game and outscored their Peace foes 60-1.

The Bishops then shut out Sumter in their doubleheader sweep 9-0 in each match. Sophomore Roberto Puig won each of his matches in straight sets at #1 singles as did sophomore Aditya Iyer at #2 singles, junior Jesus Gil at #3 singles, and freshman Jhonny Acosta at #4 singles.

Freshman Nikita Revin won in 3 sets in each of his matches at #5 singles while junior Ingmar Remmerswaal won each of his #6 matches as well. Iyer and Gil won each of their doubles matches by scores of 8-0 and 8-4 at #2 and #1 doubles respectively while Remmerswaal and Acosta won 8-2 and 8-5 in doubles as well. Puig and freshman Max Robinson also won 8-3 and 8-2 in #3 doubles.

Wesleyan improves to 9-1 on the year and 1-0 in the conference with the wins while Peace falls to 0-4.

The Bishops are back in action next Saturday when they battle conference foes Greensboro College on the road at Noon and Methodist at home at 1 PM.
