Men's Tennis Sweeps DH from Pfeiffer

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College men's tennis team continued their domination through conference play as they swept Pfeiffer University (NC) 9-0 in each match of their doubleheader on Saturday.

In the first match, the men were led by sophomore Roberto Puig as he teamed with senior Giannis Brokakis to win at #1 doubles 8-3 and then won 7-5, 6-4 in #1 singles. Fellow sophomore Aditya Iyer then won a close bout at #2 singles winning 7-5, 6-4 while he also teamed with freshman Juan Vallejo to win at #3 doubles 8-1. Vallejo also won 6-0,6-0 at #3 singles too.

Fellow freshman Jhonny Acosta then won at #5 singles 6-0, 6-0 while senior teammate J.D. Telles also won 6-0, 6-0 at #4 singles. Acosta then paired with junior Ingmar Remmerswaal to win at #2 doubles 8-1. Freshman Nikita Revin then finished off the shutout with a 6-1, 6-3 win at #6 singles.

In the second match, the Bishops were led by Acosta and Remmerswaal again as they won this time at #1 doubles 8-4. Acosta then won his #3 singles match 6-2, 6-2 as well. After Telles teamed with freshman Max Robinson to win 8-1 at #2 doubles, He would go on to rout his foe 6-2, 6-0 at #4 singles. The final doubles match then featured Vallejo teaming with Nadeem Jaber to win 8-2 before Vallejo won his #2 singles matchup 7-5, 6-1 in the closest singles bout of the second match.

Brokakis won his #1 singles match 6-2, retired while Revin won 6-0, 6-2 at #5 singles. Freshman Fayz Mavlyudov then closed out the match 6-1, 6-1 for the shutout.

Wesleyan improves to 14-2 on the season and 6-0 in the conference and will next face Averett University (Va.) on the road Tuesday at 3:30 PM.
