Men's Tennis Player of the Week
Roberto Puig, N.C. Wesleyan - The sophomore from Malaga, Spain earned a 2-0 singles record and a 1-1 doubles mark last week for the Battling Bishops. Puig collected singles victories over opponents from USA South foe Averett (6-4, 6-2) at the number-one spot and nationally-ranked College of New Jersey at the number-two position (6-2, 6-3). In doubles, at the top-position, Puig teamed with Giannis Brokakis to earn a win over Averett. He beat out 4 other nominees. Puig is pictured below.
Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week
Juan Vallejo, N.C. Wesleyan - The freshman from Asuncion, Paraguay earned a 2-0 singles record at both the #3 singles and doubles positions last week for the Battling Bishops. The victories in singles came over opponents from USA South foe Averett (6-3, 6-1) and nationally-ranked College of New Jersey (6-2, 6-2). In doubles, Vallejo teamed with two different partners to earn the two wins.
The men will next lead the 24th ranked 17-2 Bishops into a home match with Averett on Thursday at 4 PM.
