Men's Tennis Swats Away Cougars

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The 24th ranked N.C. Wesleyan College men's tennis team defeated conference rival Averett University 9-0 at home on Thursday to improve to 18-2 on the season and 9-0 in the conference. The Bishops have shut out every conference opponent so far.

Senior Giannis Brokakis and sophomore Roberto Puig led the Bishops to the win with an 8-1 win in doubles as well as singles wins. Brokakis won 6-1, 6-1 at the top line while Puig won 6-1, 6-2 at the 2 line.

Freshman Jhonny Acosta and junior Ingmar Remmerswaal also won 8-1 in doubles while Acosta won 6-0, 6-1 at #4 singles. Fellow freshman and current conference rookie of the week, Juan Vallejo then teamed with freshman Nadeem Jaber to win 8-5 at the third doubles before also winning 6-3, 6-1 at #3 singles. Senior J.D. Telles and freshman Fayz Mavlyudov then closed the match out with easy wins at 5 and 6.

The Bishops will finish out their conference schedule with a game at rival Methodist next Wednesday at 3:30 PM. Averett falls to 7-5 overall and 3-3 in conference.
