Men's Tennis Advances to USA South Finals

LAGRANGE, Ga. - The top seeded and #23 NC Wesleyan Men's tennis team cruised to a quick 5-0 shutout win over 3rd seed Averett University (10-7) in the USA South Conference Tournament Semis on Saturday morning in LaGrange.

The Bishop men swept all three doubles matches, 8-4 (Brokakis & Puig at #1), 8-1 (Iyer & Vallejo at #2), and 8-2 (Telles & Ingmar Remmerswaal) to take a 3-0 lead. All-Conference First Teamer Giannis Brokakis and Rookie of the Year Juan Vallejo then clinched the match win with their dominating singles victories. Brokakis went on to handle his opponent 6-1, 6-0 at #1 singles while Vallejo won 6-1, 6-2 at #4 singles.

Also leading their respective matches when the dual was clinched were sophomore Player of the Year Roberto Puig 6-2, 1-0 at #2, Sophomore Adi Iyer 6-0, 3-0 at #3, freshman Jhonny Acosta 6-0, 5-1 at #5 singles and senior J.D. Telles 6-0, 5-1 at #6 singles.

The men improve to 20-2 on the season and will next advance to the Conference finals to face East Division rival and 2nd seeded Methodist University on Sunday morning at 10 AM from McCluskey Courts. Methodist defeated West #1 Piedmont 5-0 in the other semifinal.
