Men's Tennis to play Sewanee Friday at Emory

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The #23 NC Wesleyan College men's tennis team will make its 11th straight trip to the NCAA Division III National Tournament, as the Bishops head to Atlanta, Ga. to compete against #20 Sewanee University (Tenn.) in opening round action on Friday at 2 PM from the WPEC Center.  

The Bishops are in a four-team regional hosted by nationally-ranked No. 3 Emory (Ga.), who will host regionally ranked No. 15 Washington & Lee (Va.) in the other regional semifinal. Sewanee (21-6) is ranked third while the Bishops are ranked 5th in the Atlantic South Regional.

The Emory-hosted regional will take place May 10-11 with the Men's Final to take place Saturday at 1 PM, also from the WPEC.

The 23rd ranked Bishops were one of the automatic qualifying schools and received its bid after winning its 11th consecutive USA South Athletic Conference tournament championship last weekend in LaGrange. The Bishops are currently on an 11-match winning streak and are 21-2 overall while posting a perfect 10-0 mark against USA South competition. The men are led by 19th ranked Giannis Brokakis and 20th ranked Roberto Puig. Both are all-conference first teamers and all-tournament selections while Brokakis was the tournament MVP and Puig the Player of the Year. The Brokakis and Puig doubles pairing is also ranked 5th in the region.

The Bishops won their second round match at Nationals last season 5-3 over Sewanee as well before falling 5-0 to Emory in the Sweet 16.
