#3 Emory Eliminates 23rd ranked Bishops

ATLANTA, Ga. - The nationally ranked #23 NC Wesleyan College men's tennis team saw their terrific school record 22-win season come to an end with a 5-1 loss to third ranked Emory University on Saturday in the Regional Final of the NCAA D-3 Tournament.

The Bishops finish their season with a school record number of wins with 22 and their least amount of losses of 3 since 2012. #3 Emory (19-2) advances to the national quarterfinals with the win.

The Bishops got on the board early in doubles with a win at the top line from senior Giannis Brokakis and sophomore Roberto Puig as they rolled to an 8-3 win at #1 doubles. Sophomore Aditya Iyer and freshman Juan Vallejo tried to rally in their match at #2 doubles but fell 8-5 as Emory took an early 2-1 lead.

Emory then closed out the victory with wins at #1, #2, and #4 singles with Brokakis falling 6-1, 6-3 at the top line while Puig fell 7-6, 6-0 at #2 and Acosta fell 6-2, 6-2 at #4. Iyer was tied at a set apiece (6-3, 1-6) in his bout at #3 when the match was called while senior J.D. Telles and freshman Nikita Revin were in close battles in their respective spots at 5 and 6 singles.

The men walk away this season with a Conference Player of the Year in Puig, a conference tournament MVP in Brokakis, a Rookie of the Year in Vallejo, a Conference Coach of the Year in Albie Brice and numerous all-conference and all-tournament players.
