Bishop Tennis Finishes Conference Season With Wins over Pfeiffer and Methodist

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College men's tennis team shut out Pfeiffer 9-0 on the road Friday and then came home and defeated Methodist 8-1 to complete their conference season unbeaten at 5-0 and secure the #1 seed in next week's conference tournament.

NCWC 8, MU 1

Wesleyan first got off to a 3-0 lead by sweeping all three doubles matches as the top teams of juniors Jhonny Acosta and Juan Vallejo at the top line and senior Roberto Puig and freshman John Falke at the 2 line each won by 8-2 scores. The third team of junior Max Robinson and sophomore Tshepo Mosarwa then won 8-7 as they took the tiebreaker 7-4 for the win.

Picking up straight set singles wins were Vallejo at #2 spot, Acosta at #3, Falke at #4, Mosarwa at #5, and Augusto Roca at #6. MU grabbed their lone win at the #1 singles spot as Puig had to retire during the end of the second set due to injury after dropping the first set 7-6 and 7-5 in the tiebreak.

NCWC 9, PU 0

Wesleyan's second squad then made the trip to Pfeiffer on Friday afternoon and picked up a shutout win including two wins by default. The top two doubles wins were by identical 8-0 decisions as freshman Valentin Mussi and sophomore Thato Holmes won at the #1 spot and Roca and Andrea Fanzaga at the 2 spot. 

Mussi, Roca, sophomore Valentin Ancieto, Holmes, and freshman Vittorio Noli each won their singles in straight sets as well. 

The Bishops finish their regular season 18-2 and will host Averett at home next Saturday in the East Division Final.
