Newport News, Va. - North Carolina Wesleyan saw its women's soccer season come to an end on Tuesday night as the 8th-seeded Bishops fell at top-seeded Christopher Newport by a 4-1 score in the first round of the 2011 USA South Tournament.

Down 2-0 at the half, Bishop freshman Rebecca Staylor netted her 10th goal of the season in the 54th minute to cut the deficit to 2-1. Staylor chipped CNU keeper Meghan Gumbs after fellow freshman Dori Brooks lofted a pass over the Captain defense. The Captains, however, answered with a pair of insurance goals in the 62nd and 66th minutes to erase any thoughts of an upset.

NCWC freshman keeper Johanna Wallinder kept the game close with a season- and career-high 20 saves on the night.

The loss leaves Wesleyan with a 2-17 overall record and marks the ends of the careers of seniors Tija Riley, Sarah Sallenger, Kasie Edwards and Courtney Jamieson.
