Bishop Women Shutout Randolph for First Win, 1-0

Lynchburg, Va. - The Battling Bishop women's soccer team earned its first win of the 2013 season on Wednesday evening, holding on for a 1-0 road victory over the Wildcats of Randolph College. Junior Jade Gold scored the lone goal of the match on an assist from senior Chelsea Laurens, while sophomore keeper Haley Hopkins secured her first shutout with five saves on the day.

Wesleyan's goal came early in the match as Gold notched her first score of the season at the 7:52 mark.  The Bishops took the 1-0 advantage into the break, and Hopkins (1-1) proceeded to seal the victory with a trio of saves in the final 45 minutes.

Now 1-1 on the season, Wesleyan returns home on Saturday for a 2:00pm kickoff against the Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon College.
