Bishop Women Down Hollins 2-1 for Third Victory

Roanoke, Va. - The N.C. Wesleyan women's soccer team turned in 2-1 win over Hollins University on Saturday afternoon, evening their record at 3-3 on the season. Freshman LeAnnza Ussery tallied the Bishops' first goal just 37 seconds into the second half, while sophomore Nicole Liette netted the eventual game-winner in the 63rd minute.

After fighting to a scoreless tie in the opening period, Ussery scored her first collegiate goal at the 45:37 mark on an assist from Kelly Cranick. Liette upped NCWC's lead to 2-0 at 62:08 when she booted home a pass from Ashley Sankner.

Hollins made it interesting in the 81st minute when Becca Logan tallied an unassisted goal to make the score 2-1. The Bishop defense, however, shut the door down the stretch to secure the team's third win of the season.

NCWC keepers Haley Hopkins and Vanessa Batchelor combined for eight saves on the day. Hollins held a slim 16-12 advantage in shots and 7-5 lead in corners.

Previously on Friday, Wesleyan opened up USA South play with a 5-0 loss at defending champion Averett . Hopkins and Batchelor managed seven saves on 20 Cougar shots.

The Bishops continue league play on Friday at Maryville College. The match is slated for a 3:30pm start.
