Wesleyan Suffers Pair of Tough Losses in League Play

Rocky Mount, N.C. - The Battling Bishop women's soccer team dropped a pair of tight USA South matches this weekend, dropping a 2-1 contest at Maryville on Friday and a 2-0 decision to Greensboro on Sunday at home.

On Sunday at Scalf Field, the Bishops held the Pride to just one goal in the opening period and narrowly missed a pair of scores of their own, as shots by Logan Bill and Carolyn Finney glanced off the post. The 1-0 score held firm late into the second period, but Greensboro's Melanie Raton added an insurance goal with just four minutes remaining to seal the Pride win.

Greensboro held a slim 10-7 lead in shots on the day, while NCWC keepers Haley Hopkins and Vanessa Batchelor combined for four saves.

Previously on Friday, the Bishops held the Scots scoreless in the opening period before MVC's Sierra Siegel netted the game's first goal at the 76:00 mark. Minutes later, the Scots' Taylor Emerson added a second score for a 2-0 lead.

Wesleyan's Jade Gold pocketed a goal for the Bishops in the 86th minute that cut the deficit in half, but it would prove to be the final shot of the match en route to a 2-1 final. Hopkins finished with four saves in goal.

The Bishops return to play on Wednesday as they travel to Methodist University for a 2:00pm match-up with the Monarchs.
