Women’s Soccer plays to a Draw with Ferrum

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The NC Wesleyan College Women's Soccer team returned home Tuesday to host former USA South rival Ferrum College (Va.) in a non-conference tilt for their home opener. They came away with a hard-earned draw after 110 minutes of action with the game ending in near pitch-dark conditions.

The Lady Bishops got on the board first as sophomore forward Cydney Nichols scored on a penalty kick just 12 minutes into the game to put Wesleyan up early.

The Battling Bishops would then come back with their second goal of the game in the 60th minute of the second half as Nichols assisted on a Jordan Forbess goal. Forbess, a senior forward, would go on to take 3 shots with two on goal while junior forward Sarah Cook led the Bishops with four total shots. Sophomore Defender Manuela Cano also had three shots in the game.

However, the Lady Panthers (1-0-1) would tie the game in the 83rd minute as their free kick bounced over Wesleyan sophomore goalkeeper Alicia Jacobs and into the net. Ferrum then added the tying goal just two minutes later off a corner kick to send the game into overtime.

Both teams had chances in both overtime sessions but would ultimately come up empty.

The Bishops would control the shots as well outshooting the Panthers 17-9 for the game including 8-2 in the first half. Jacobs would go on to make four saves on six shots on goal in 110 minutes.

NC Wesleyan (1-0-1) is next in action again on Saturday at Scalf field as they will host non-conference foe Stockton University (1-1) from New Jersey in a Noon contest.
