Women's Soccer Ousts Averett

DANVILLE, Va.- The NC Wesleyan Women's soccer team pulled away early in the second half and held off conference foe Averett University 3-1 on the road Saturday afternoon.

Maggie Rankin , a senior forward, led the Bishops with her first two goals of the season while junior forward Sarah Cook had a goal and two assists in the USA South win.

Wesleyan improves to 3-3-1 and 1-0 in the conference with the win while Averett falls to 2-8 overall and 0-1 in the conference.

Sophomore goalkeeper Alicia Jacobs made 6 saves on 7 shots while the shot count was tied at 13 apiece. Cook led with 4 shots while senior forward Jordan Forbess had three with an assist. Sophomore forward Cydney Nichols also assisted on Cook's goal just 1:12 into the game. 

Averett scored their lone goal in the 36th minute to tie the match at half before Rankin scored both of Wesleyan's second half goals as NCWC outshot the Cougars 10-6 in the half.

Wesleyan next returns home on Wednesday to host Meredith College at 4 PM in a USA South matchup.
