STAUNTON, Va. - The NC Wesleyan College women's soccer team rolled to a 6-2 win over Mary Baldwin University on the road Saturday.
Senior forward Sarah Cook led the Bishops with two goals on the day. She scored her first unassisted on a breakaway in the 15th minute of play before junior striker Cydney Nichols made it 2-0 with a goal in the 26th minute unassisted, her 5th of the season. Cook then scored her second goal to close the first half off an assist from freshman Isabel Neall as the Bishops outshot the Squirrels 16-6 in the half. Cook now has 6 goals on the season and 14 points.
Wesleyan then made it 4-0 in the 64th minute as Cook would assist sophomore midfielder Khristel Thompson for her first goal. After an MBU goal made it 4-1, Wesleyan would come back with two more goals as Claire Bailey would score unassisted in the 77th minute followed by junior Manuela Cano scoring in the 83rd minute off a Mariah Berkovich assist to make it 6-1.
Junior goalkeeper Alicia Jacobs finished the day making 5 saves on 7 shots as the Bishops outshot the Squirrels 30-12.
Wesleyan improves to 3-6 overall and 2-1 in the conference while MBU falls to 3-8 and 0-3.
The Ladies are back in action today to host non-conference foe Piedmont International at 4:00.
