Rocky Mount, N.C. - The Battling Bishop women's tennis team played a trio of USA South matches this week, highlighted by Wednesday's 5-4 victory over Greensboro College. Wesleyan went on to drop 8-1 and 7-2 decisions to Piedmont and Covenant on Friday and Saturday, respectively, with freshman Natalia Lopez once again going undefeated in singles play. Lopez, in fact, has yet to drop a set this season.

Due to inclement weather, Wesleyan hosted Wednesday's match versus Greensboro at the Belmont Lake Indoor Racquet Club adjacent to campus. Lopez teamed with fellow freshman Neryzza Calo for an 8-3 win at #1 doubles, but a tough 9-7 loss at the #2 seed gave the Pride a 2-1 lead entering singles play.

Forced to surrender a pair of points a #5 and #6 singles by default, Wesleyan needed a sweep a the #1 through #4 seeds to earn a win. Lopez breezed to a 6-0, 6-0 win at the top slot, while sophomore Katie Beeman (C) was a 6-1, 6-2 winner at #2. Calo proceeded to knot the match at 4-4 with a straight-set win at the #3 position, which set the stage for a match-deciding tilt between NCWC freshman Leigh Hales and GC's Margaret Dubey. Hales delivered with relative ease, earning a 6-3, 6-1 win to clinch the team victory.

The Bishops moved back over to the Slick Family Foundation Tennis Center on Friday and Saturday, but more seasoned Piedmont and Covenant teams were too much for the youthful Bishops. Lopez, however, continued to shine with a pair of straight-set wins at #1 singles in both matches.

Wesleyan wraps up the home portion of its regular season slate on Wednesday when the Bishops host Meredith College at 2:00pm.
