NCWC Women Cruise to 9-0 Sweep of Methodist

Rocky Mount, N.C. - In Wednesday's much-anticipated USA South women's tennis tilt, the Battling Bishops of N.C. Wesleyan proved themselves to be a force within the league with a dominating 9-0 sweep of Methodist University at the Slick Family Foundation Tennis Center. Wesleyan did not give up a set to the five-time defending champion Monarchs, turning in six straight-set wins in singles play.

Doubles play opened with top-seeded Natalia Lopez and Maria Fernanda Orona shutting out the MU duo of Isabella Graf and Sam Munze 8-0. Freshmen Rachel Hui and Sofia Gonzalez turned in an 8-5 win at the #2 seed, while Valeria Berber and Sofia Prado were 8-4 winners at #3.

In singles action, Lopez cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 win over Graf at the top seed, followed by Hui posting a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Munze at #2. Orona, Berber, Gonzalez and Prado proceeded to make light work of their opponents at #3 through #6, with six of the eight sets resulting in 6-1 wins for the Bishops.

"This was a great win for our team," said NCWC head coach Andres Amores. "We would like to thank everyone for coming out and showing support. Both the teams and coaches appreciated it, and it really gave us a boost."

Now 3-2 overall and 3-0 in league play, the Bishops will host USA South foe Ferrum College on Saturday at 2:00pm.
