Lookout Mtn. / Demorest, Ga. - The Battling Bishop women's tennis team continued its USA South dominance over the weekend, posting a trio of 9-0 victories over league foes Covenant, Piedmont and Maryville. With six straight sweeps and a 7-2 overall record, Wesleyan is officially off to the best start in program history and is climbing in the ITA's regional rankings.

Versus Covenant and Piedmont, second-year head coach Andres Amores went with his usual doubles tandems of Natalia Lopez/Maria Fernanda Orona at #1, Rachel Hui/Sofia Gonzalez at #2 and Valeria Berber/Sofia Prado at #3. Freshman Florencia Sorrentino partnered with Berber at #3 against Maryville, and as a team, the Bishops combined to out-score their opponents 72-15 in doubles play over the three-match span.

Singles play saw all 18 wins come in straight sets.

Wesleyan's success this season has resulted in the Bishops garnering regional recognition in the ITA's latest poll released on Thursday. As a team, the Bishops came in at #9 in the Atlantic South Region. Individually, Lopez boasts a #19 regional ranking in singles play, as well as a #13 ranking in doubles action alongside Orona.

Wesleyan is now 7-0 in the USA South. The Bishops return to action on Friday at Meredith College in a match slated to begin at 3:00pm.
