Bishops Extend Streak Versus Meredith and Baldwin

Raleigh / Rocky Mount, N.C. - The Battling Bishop women's tennis team continued its win streak this weekend with USA South victories over Meredith and Mary Baldwin. Wesleyan's 7-2 win on Friday was the program's first-ever over the Angels, while the Bishops' 9-0 sweep of MBC on Saturday set a new program record for consecutive wins in a season with nine.

Versus Meredith, NCWC managed a 2-1 lead after doubles as the duos of Rachel Hui/Sofia Gonzalez and Valeria Berber/Sofia Prado cruised to 8-2 and 8-1 wins. The Angels managed a point at the top seed, with MC's Catherine Bryant/Ran Zhang handing Natalia Lopez/Maria Fernanda Orona their first loss in league play by an 8-6 score.

Singles play saw Lopez, Orona, Gonzalez, Berber and Prado all post straight set victories. Hui dropped a tough three-setter to Zhang at #2 (6-4, 3-6, 10-8), giving the Angels' their final point.

Against Baldwin on Saturday, the same Bishop line-up did not surrender a single point en route to a 9-0 sweep.

Now 9-2 overall and 9-0 in USA South play, the Bishops are slated to host William Peace University on Tuesday at 3:00pm.
