Bishop Women's Tennis Season Ends in NCAA Second Round

Fredericksburg, Va. - The North Carolina Wesleyan women's tennis team saw its 2015 season come to an end on Saturday morning in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Bishops fell to Washington & Lee University by a 5-0 score at the UMW Tennis Complex.

Ranked #4 nationally, the Generals raced out to a 3-0 lead in doubles play and proceeded to take five of six first sets in singles. Freshman Maria Fernanda Orona was on her way to getting Wesleyan on the board, posting a 6-0 win her opening set at #3. Orona's match, however, was halted when W&L earned the 5-0 decision with victories at #2 and #6.

Wesleyan ends the season with a 15-3 overall record. The season was by far the most successful in program history as the Bishops set team records for wins (15), consecutive wins (15), USA South wins (12) and fewest losses (3), among others. Individually, freshman Sofia Prado set a new program record for singles wins with 18, while sophomore Natalia Lopez and Orona combined to eclipse the record for doubles victories with 17.

The 2015 USA South Regular Season and Tournament Champions, the youthful Bishops went 1-1 in their first NCAA Tournament. NCWC will now look to build on the success of this memorable season next fall.
