Women's Tennis Rolls Past D-2 Minnesota St.

ORLANDO, Fla. - The NC Wesleyan College women's tennis team completed their matches in Orlando yesterday by defeating D-2 foe Minnesota St.-Mankato 9-0 at the USTA National Campus.

#1 singles player and 12th ranked freshman Fariza Abdulloeva led the Bishops by winning both of her matches. She first won at singles 7-6, 6-4 and teamed with sophomore Julianna Johnson to win doubles 6-4. The next five singles players for the Bishops then completely dominated their foes as they combined to relinquish only 7 games overall during the five matches. Johnson and fellow sophomore Ana Aguilar led with 6-0, 6-0 wins at #3 and #6 singles respectively while freshman Milena Amedieva and junior Nicole Halabi each won 6-1, 6-1 at #2 and #5 singles. Sophomore Giulia Zanetti then closed it out with a 6-2, 6-1 win at #4 singles.

Amedieva would then combine with senior Stephany Barbera to win 6-1 in #2 doubles while the team of Halabi and sophomore Louise Hovhammer won 6-0 at #3 doubles as well.

Wesleyan improves to 4-3 on the season with the win while MSU drops to 5-11.

The Bishops are back in action today when they play at D-2 Embry-Riddle University (FL) in Daytona Beach at 3:30 PM.
