Women Shut Out Belmont Abbey

BELMONT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan Women's tennis team scrimmaged D-2 foe Belmont Abbey College (N.C.) last Tuesday in a warm-up for the conference tournament and came away with a 7-0 victory.

The women swept the doubles 6-0, 6-3, 6-3 including a shutout from the top doubles team of freshmen Fariza Abdulloeva and Milena Amedieva.

The freshmen duo then each won 6-0, 6-0 in their singles matches respectively while junior Nicole Halabi at #5 and senior Stephany Barbera at #6 clinched the match with easy wins. Halabi won 6-1, 6-0 while Barbera also won 6-0, 6-0. Sophomore Giulia Zanetti then won 6-3, 6-4 at #3 singles while fellow sophomore Julianna Johnson won 6-3, 6-2 at #4 singles. Sophomore Ana Aguilar also won 8-1 in her exhibition match.

The women are 15-4 on the season and USA South Champs and await their opponent in the upcoming national tournament.
