Lady Bishop Tennis Knocks off Hanover in 1st Round

ATLANTA, Ga. - The regionally 11th ranked and 4th seeded NC Wesleyan College women's tennis team knocked off 5th seed Hanover College (Ind.) 5-0 in opening round action on Friday in its second straight trip to the NCAA Division III National Tournament in Atlanta. This was the Bishops' 10th straight win as well.

The Bishops now advance to Saturday's second round action against host and nationally-ranked #1 Emory University at 11:30 Saturday on the indoor courts.

The Ladies were led by the freshmen duo of Fariza Abdulloeva and Milena Amedieva in doubles as they won 8-3. Amedieva and sophomore Julianna Johnson then closed out the match in singles winning 6-0, 6-0 respectively in their matches at #2 and #4 singles.

Johnson also teamed up with senior Stephany Barbera to win 8-2 at #2 doubles while junior Nicole Halabi and sophomore Giulia Zanetti won 8-1 at #3 doubles as NCWC grabbed a 3-0 lead.

Abdulloeva, Zanetti, Halabi, and Barbera were all up one set when the match was called as well as they could have rolled to a 9-0 win.
