Women's Tennis Edge Methodist to Clinch at least Share of East Division

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College women's tennis team defeated conference rival Methodist University 5-4 at home on Thursday to clinch at least a share of the East Division title and the #1 seef in next week's conference tournament.

NC Wesleyan improves to 7-6 overall and 5-0 in the USA South with their 4th straight win while MU falls to 7-12 and 4-1 in the USA South.

The Ladies got out to a 2-1 lead after doubles as the top pairing of freshmen Stefanie Wilske and Elisa Mariotti won 8-5 while the #2 doubles team of seniors Talitha Rowan and Giulia Zanetti also defeated their foes 8-4.

Wilske and Mariotti then dominated their foes at the #1 (6-1, 6-0) and #3 (6-1, 6-2) spots respectively in singles to give the Bishops four points while MU won at the #4, #5 and #6 spots to tie the matchup at four apiece.

The match ended up coming down to the #2 singles matchup between Zanetti and MU's Toni Laney which was won by Zanetti as she dominated the third set 6-1 to win after the two split the first two sets, 6-7, 6-4.

The Bishops will finish their conference regular season on Friday when they head to Pfeiffer at 2 PM.
