Women's Track & Field to Begin in 2019-20

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - Director of Athletics Aaron Denton is pleased to announce the addition of North Carolina Wesleyan's 15th varsity sport, Women's Track & Field to the college's athletic teams. 

The Department of Athletics is also happy to announce that the current Men's & Women's Cross Country Coach, Marsall Leonard, will also serve as the Battling Bishops' head track and field coach.

"We are excited to be adding Track and Field to our women's programs here at NC Wesleyan," Leonard said.  "On the female side of women's athletics in the high school setting, Track & Field is the most participated sport in the United States.  There are a lot of females that want to continue their running career, and we are excited to offer them that opportunity.

"I also believe that having a Track program will help our Cross Country program's recruiting," Leonard went on to mention. "We have high goals for our program and I am excited to get it started." Leonard currently has 10 student-athletes on each of the men's and women's cross country teams as each team is coming off winning thier first D3 races this season. 

Women's Track and Field will begin competition during the 2019-20 academic year.
