Winston-Salem, N.C. - Behind a season-high 16 kills and 10 digs from senior Taylor Johnson, North Carolina Wesleyan's volleyball team picked up its first win of the season on Tuesday night with a 3-0 sweep of Salem College. Set scores were 25-21, 25-22 and 25-22.

Holding a slim 12-11 lead midway through the opening set, back-to-back kills from Johnson and freshman Evie Hunter ignited a 10-4 Bishop run that allowed them to pull away for a 1-0 lead in the match. The second set proved to be a back-and-forth battle, with Wesleyan prevailing 25-22 thanks to a pair of Spirit attack errors to close it out.

Up 2-0, the Bishops proceeded to race out to a 22-14 lead in the second set, but Salem made it interesting by pushing six straight points for a 22-20 score. A pair of Johnson kills, however, put to rest any thoughts of a comeback as the Bishops secured the sweep with a three-point win.

In addition to Johnson, freshman Tori Stewart chipped in seven kills, while sophomore Kayla White tallied six kills, 23 assists and five service aces. Defensively, freshman Christina Huber recorded a team-high 14 digs.

As a team, the Bishops racked up 41 kills to the Spirits' 32 and out-blocked them 9-0 on the night.

Wesleyan now takes an 8-day break before opening up USA South play next Thursday, the 19th, at William Peace University. Match time is slated for 7:00pm.
