Bishops Earn League Split at Averett Play Day

Danville, Va. - The Bishop volleyball team earned a league split at Friday's USA South Play Day hosted by Averett University, falling to the host Cougars by a 3-1 score before downing Ferrum in a 3-0 sweep.

Against Averett (12-5, 6-0 USA South), set scores were 25-22, 25-11, 22-25 and 25-16. Wesleyan was able to pull out a win in the third set by virtue of their best team hitting percentage, and the Bishops proceeded to go up 11-8 in the fourth. The Cougars, however, responded with a 14-4 run to take the lead and pull away for their sixth conference victory.

Freshman Evie Hunter paced the Bishops with a team-high seven kills and .316 hitting percentage, while sophomore Kayla White turned in a double-double of 18 assists and 15 digs.

Versus Ferrum (1-10, 0-6 USA South), set scores were 25-20, 25-21 and 25-22. NCWC pushed points late in each set to secure their second league sweep of the season.

Senior Taylor Johnson and freshman Tori Stewart tallied 10 kills apiece, with Hunter and Beth Bradham chipping in seven and six, respectively. White dished out 33 assists, and libero Christina Huber anchored the defensive effort with a match-high 15 digs.
