Bishop Volleyball Hosts Guilford on Dig Pink Night

Rocky Mount, N.C. - N.C. Wesleyan's volleyball team hosted its 2013 Dig Pink Night on Friday evening as the Battling Bishops welcomed Guilford College to Everett Gymnasium. Wesleyan players and fans sported pink attire and ribbons to show their support of Breast Cancer Awareness.

The Quakers went on secure a 3-0 sweep of the Bishops to even their record at 12-12 on the season. Set scores were 25-8, 25-21 and 25-19. Guilford came out on fire with 15 kills against no errors in the opening set, and while the Bishops faired better in sets two and three, they would not be able to combat a .327 GC hitting percentage.

Freshman Christina Huber had 15 digs defensively, while sophomore Kayla White notched 13 assists. Senior Taylor Johnson and freshman Tori Stewart combined for 11 of the team's 22 kills on the night.

The loss came on the heels of a tough 3-2 defeat to USA South foe Greensboro on Wednesday. The two squads alternated wins through four sets, but unfortunately, the Pride would steal the league victory with a 15-12 win in the fifth and deciding set.

Johnson and Stewart finished with 14 kills apiece, with White dishing out 31 assists. Huber and freshman Beth Bradham had 18 and 17 digs, respectively, to anchor the defensive effort.

Wesleyan returns to USA South play on Tuesday night at Mary Baldwin College. The match is slated for a 7:00pm start.
