Volleyball Bishops Drop 3-1 Home Decision to Marlins

Rocky Mount, N.C. - The Battling Bishop volleyball squad was in action on Wednesday night in Everett Gym, dropping a 3-1 decision to Virginia Wesleyan (25-14, 25-14, 21-25, 25-8). Despite the loss, freshman Samantha Morton turned in stellar performance with seven kills and a .583 hitting percentage, while sophomore libero Christina Huber also faired well statistically with a match-high 18 digs.

After dropping the first two sets by identical 25-14 scores, the Bishops came to life in the third behind a trio of kills by Morton and sophomore Tori Stewart. NCWC's front line also tallied four total blocks in the set en route to a 25-21 win.

Unfortunately, the fourth set saw the Marlins open up a quick 6-0 lead, while an 8-0 run later in the set sealed the match.

As a team, the Bishops won the blocking battle with eight total on the night. Morton and fellow freshman Emily McClain had four apiece, with Stewart adding three. Elsewhere statistically, sophomore Ayla Brewer and freshman Savanna Evans combined for five service aces.

For VWC, Alex Lambert and Tiffany Barrett tallied 16 kills apiece.

NCWC (0-2) returns to action on Saturday with a pair of matches at Methodist University. The Bishops open play with Emory & Henry College at 1:00pm.
