Wesleyan Volleyball Falls in Five Sets at Guilford, 3-2

Greensboro, N.C. - N.C. Wesleyan's volleyball squad dropped a tough 3-2 decision at Guilford College on Friday night in non-conference play. The Bishops battled back from two sets down to force a fifth and deciding set, but eventually fell 15-6 to give the Quakers the match. The defeat comes on the heels of a 3-1 USA South loss at Greensboro on Wednesday.

Versus Guilford, set scores were 25-15, 25-17, 20-25, 18-25 and 15-6. After NCWC knotted the match at 2-2 with wins in the third and fourth, the Quakers regrouped to grab the early momentum in the fifth set by forging an 8-1 lead at the switch. The match was evenly played on the backend of the set, but Wesleyan was unable to overcome Guilford's initial run.

Sophomore Beth Bradham and freshman Emily McLain tallied a team-high eight kills apiece for the Bishops, with setter Ayla Brewer dishing out 23 assists. Freshman Samantha Morton added six kills and five blocks, while sophomore Evie Hunter anchored the defensive effort with 17 digs.

At Greensboro on Wednesday, set scores were 26-24, 22-25, 25-15 and 25-20. McLain recorded 13 kills on the night, and libero Christina Huber chipped in 16 digs.

Wesleyan (4-15, 3-7 USA South) returns to conference play on Wednesday when the Bishops host Mary Baldwin at 4:00pm.
