Wesleyan Ends Week with 3-1 Victory over Ferrum

Danville, Va. - The Battling Bishop volleyball team of N.C. Wesleyan suffered a 3-0 sweep to host Averett University on Friday afternoon before closing out the week with a 3-1 victory over USA South foe Ferrum College. Sophomore Tori Stewart and freshman Emily McLain combined for 21 kills and five blocks in the win. Set scores were 21-25, 25-21, 25-18 and 25-18. Friday's action followed a 3-0 loss to Meredith on Wednesday's Dig Pink Night in Everett Gym.

Versus Ferrum, the Panthers held a slim 47-42 edge in kills but recorded 12 more attack errors than the Bishops, which proved to be the difference in the match. The Bishops had six players notch double-digit digs, led by sophomore Christina Huber's 19. Junior Kayla White also racked up 32 assists.

The win came on the heels of a 3-0 loss to Averett earlier in the day (25-20, 25-12, 25-14). The Cougars dominated in sets two and three to finish with 46 kills as a team.

Earlier in the week, the Bishops played their final home match of the season in front of an enthusiastic crowd sporting pink clothing, pink hair and pink accessories in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month. Despite a solid Wesleyan effort, the Angels were able to secure their 20th win of the season by 25-20, 25-22 and 25-21 scores. McClain paced NCWC with a team-high eight kills, with Ayla Brewer dishing out 14 assists and fellow sophomore Evie Hunter tallying 13 digs.

Wesleyan (6-19, 5-11 USA South) travels to Methodist University on Wednesday night for a 7:00pm league match versus the Monarchs.
