Fayetteville, N.C. - Freshman Samantha Morton racked up a career-high 14 kills on Wednesday night in Fayetteville, leading her N.C. Wesleyan volleyball squad to a 3-2 win over USA South rival Methodist University. Set scores were 20-25, 26-24, 32-30, 19-25 and 15-13. The victory is NCWC's third of the season over the Monarchs.

After dropping the first set, Wesleyan battled back to take set two behind 13 team kills. Tied 24-24, the Bishops got back-to-back kills from Emily McLain and Tori Stewart to even the match at 1-1.

The third set was a thriller and saw the two squads combine to fight off seven match points... four by Wesleyan and three by Methodist. With the score even at 30-30, the Bishops again got a kill from McLain to force match point, and the freshman proceeded to team with Stewart for a set-ending block that put NCWC up 2-1 in the match.

The Monarchs were able to send the match to a fifth and deciding set with a 25-19 win in the fourth. Neither team led by more than three points in the final set, but it would be the Bishops who pushed ahead late, forging a 14-11 advantage on McLain's tenth kill of the night. MU pulled to within one at 14-13, but Morton sealed the 3-2 match with kill of her own.

Stewart joined Morton and McLain in double-digit kills with 11. Kayla White and Ayla Brewer dished out 27 and 18 assists, respectively, while libero Christina Huber turned in a season-high 38 digs to anchor the defense.

Wesleyan (7-19, 6-11 USA South) wraps up its regular season slate on Saturday with a pair of league matches hosted by Piedmont.
