Bishop Volleyball Season Ends with 3-2 Loss to WPU

Demorest, Ga. - N.C. Wesleyan's volleyball squad saw its 2014 season come to an end on Saturday with a pair of tough losses at the team's final USA South Play Day hosted by Piedmont College. NCWC dropped a 3-1 decision to the host Lions before suffering a 3-2 defeat to William Peace to close out play.

Versus Piedmont, set scores were 25-15, 25-17, 23-25 and 25-13. Sophomore Tori Stewart (9) and freshman Emily McLain (8) combined for nearly half of the Bishops' 40 team kills, while libero Christina Huber managed 21 digs.

Against WPU, set scores were 25-17, 20-25, 25-20, 22-25 and 15-13. After alternating wins in the first four sets, the Pacers would go up 11-7 in the fifth before the Bishops reeled off six of the next nine points to make the score 14-13. Unfortunately, Peace's Tempestt Frazier would end the match with her 11th kill of the day to seal the victory for WPU, marking their second five-set win over the Bishops this season.

Stewart paced NCWC with a team-high ten kills, while sophomores Evie Hunter and Beth Bradham tallied eight kills apiece. Huber again paced the defense with 24 digs, and junior Kayla White dished out 24 assists.

Wesleyan ends the season with a 7-21 overall record, which includes a 6-13 mark in USA South action.
