Wesleyan Volleyball Goes 3-1 in USA South Weekend Action

Huntingdon, Ala. / LaGrange, Ga. - N.C. Wesleyan's volleyball team opened USA South play over the weekend, picking up a trio of 3-0 sweeps versus Huntingdon, LaGrange, and Piedmont. NCWC's lone loss came at the hands of Agnes Scott College by a 3-1 score.

The Bishops opened play Saturday morning at Huntingdon, downing the Hawks 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-22). Huntingdon recorded negative hitting percentages in each of the first two sets, while the Bishops racked up 24 kills against 11 errors during that same span. Tori Stewart led the way with 10 kills, and fellow senior Ayla Brewer chipped in 29 assists and a trio of service aces. Christina Huber notched 24 digs in the match.

After dropping a 3-1 decision to USA South newcomer Agnes Scott, Wesleyan rebounded for a 3-0 sweep at LaGrange on Sunday morning (25-23, 25-14, 25-15). Freshman Autumn Spence turned in a tremendous performance, putting down 15 kills and finishing with a .625 hitting percentage.  Senior Evie Hunter, who tallied a double-double of 12 kills and 17 digs versus the Scotties, racked up a match-high 19 bumps against the Panthers.

NCWC wrapped up play with a 3-0 victory over Piedmont (25-16, 25-23, 25-21). Spence again paced the Bishops with 11 kills, while freshman Haileigh Riesenbeck dished out 29 assists and completed the double-double with 11 digs.

Wesleyan (5-10, 3-1 USA South) is now set to host two league play days on Friday and Saturday in Everett Gymnasium. In addition to Mary Baldwin University, the Bishops will welcome Maryville and Salem on Friday, followed by Covenant and Wesleyan (Ga.) on Saturday. NCWC plays at 1:00pm and 7:00pm both days with neutral site matches taking place in between.
