Ferrum, Va. - Senior Tori Stewart notched her 1,000th career kill on Saturday afternoon, leading her Battling Bishop volleyball squad to a 3-2 victory over Eastern Mennonite University in non-conference play (17-25, 25-21, 23-25, 25-10, 15-9). Earlier the day, Wesleyan suffered a heartbreaking league loss to Ferrum by the same score (30-28, 25-20, 16-25, 21-25, 15-10).

After tallying 10 kills versus the Panthers, Stewart entered the EMU match needing just eight kills to reach the 1,000-kill milestone. More importantly, the Bishops hoped to bounce back from a loss to Ferrum that saw the team battle back from a 2-0 deficit, which included a 30-28 loss in the opener. Unfortunately, the 15-10 defeat in the final set gave NCWC its fifth 3-2 loss of the season.

Wesleyan dropped the opening set to EMU 25-17 before gaining momentum with a 25-21 win in the second thanks to five kills from Stewart. The Purcellville, Va. native tallied five more kills in the third and three over the final two, giving Wesleyan its first 5-set victory of the season. With 13 in the match, Stewart finished the day with 1,005 kills in her career, becoming just the fourth player in NCWC history to achieve the feat.

In addition to Stewart, freshman Autumn Spence added 13 kills in the victory and senior Evie Hunter 11. Setter Ayla Brewer racked up 37 assists in the match, while Christina Huber and Emily McLain notched 11 digs apiece. The Bishops dominated the blocking battle, turning 12 total blocks to EMU's five, led by Samantha Morton's six rejections.

Wesleyan (8-14, 5-5 USA South) travels to Methodist University on Wednesday for a 7:00pm match-up with the Monarchs before hosting Senior Night on Friday evening in Everett Gym.
