Wesleyan Cross Country Opens Season at Barton

Wilson, N.C. - The women's cross country team of North Carolina Wesleyan opened its 2014 season on Friday afternoon at the Bulldog Invitational hosted by Barton College. The 5K event was held at Gillette Park in Wilson and saw sophomore Neryzza Calo turn in a team best time of 26:58, one second ahead of freshman teammate Maria Orona.

Also competing for the Bishops were senior Connor Wright (28:04), sophomore Carolyn Finney (32:48) and sophomore Alexandria Turner (DNF).

The race featured 99 runners crossing the finish line, resulting in 12 teams earning scores. Division UNC Pembroke took top team honors, while Francis Marion's Meagan Wright earned medalist accolades as the only runner to eclipse the 20-minute mark.

Next up for the Battling Bishops is the Adidas Invitational set for September 19th at Wake Med Cross Country Park. The event is slated for a 5:45pm start in Raleigh.
