Top-10 Moments of 2014-2015... #1 Retired Jersey Unveiling

Rocky Mount, N.C. - On Mondays this summer, the NCWC Department of Athletics has been counting down the top-10 moments of the 2014-2015 season. Finally at #1, our top spot features the "Retired Jersey Unveiling" for Robert Kjellberg.

#1... JERSEY UNVEILING (APRIL 23, 2015)
The North Carolina Wesleyan Department of Athletics hosted its 50th Annual Awards Ceremony on Thursday, April 23rd, in Minges Auditorium of the Dunn Center. Coaches, staff and student-athletes came together to celebrate the accomplishments of both individuals and teams from the 2014-2015 season.

The night began with what would end up as the #2 moment on our countdown... the recognition of the 50th anniversary of the ceremony. The evening then moved into the Department of Athletics' traditional awards and culminated with the honors given for Male and Female Athlete of the Year. As expected, USA South Player of the Year Robert Kjellberg of men's tennis became a three-time honoree. What happened next, however, was quite a surprise!

After accepting his award, Kjellberg was asked to remain on stage for one final honor. The Sweden native, who is undoubtedly the most decorated athlete in the history of NCWC men's tennis, received a standing ovation from his peers when it was revealed that he would be just the 13th Battling Bishop in history to garner jersey retirement.

In the following weeks, Kjellberg went on to end his Bishop tenure with a march to the Division III National Championship doubles match. Though he tallied a runner-up finish for the second time in his career, he became the first Bishop in any sport to be named a four-time All-American, graduating as the program's career-leader in career singles wins (87) and doubles victories (92).

Congrats to Rob on a tremendous season and career!
