Steve Durelli (class of 1986) was an infielder for the Battling
Bishop baseball team during the 1984-1985 seasons. Durelli played
second base his first season and third base his second and has the
distinction of being named an All-American each year. He was
also a First Team All-Region performer during each year and was a
First Team All-Dixie Conference selection in 1985.
Durelli knocked 32 career homeruns (#4 all-time) and still holds
the record for homers in a season with 20, which ranks 20th in
NCAA history for a single season. At the time of his
induction, Durelli had the fourth highest batting average in
school history at .380 (135-355).
During his two years as a Bishop, the baseball team was 68-21-2
with two Dixie Conference Regular Season Championships (15-1 record
in Dixie play). Wesleyan made the NCAA Tournament each of those
years.
