Rocky Mount, N.C. - Sophomore Ciro Norzagaray delivered a game-winning walk-off triple in the bottom of the ninth to give his Battling Bishop baseball team a 4-3 win over Eastern Mennonite University in game two of Friday's season-opening doubleheader at Bauer Field. The Royals had taken the first game by a 2-1 score before Norzagaray's heroics helped secure the split.

In the opener, EMU got on the on the board in the top of the first when Ryan McAlister walked and came around to score on a Kyle Armstrong single to left. The Bishops later knotted the score in their half of the fourth on an infield single by sophomore Jason Riley that plated junior J.J. Rodriguez, who led off the frame with a double. Unfortunately, the Royals scratched the eventual gamewinner in the sixth on a Justin Rodriquez sac-fly.

Both starting pitchers turned in solid outings, with EMU's Adam Posey (1-0) picking up the win after allowing one run on six hits with seven strikeouts. NCWC senior Will Beasley got a no-decision, giving up one run on four hits over five innings of work.

The Bishops managed six hits as a team, led by Norzagaray's 2-for-3 showing.

In game two, it was the Bishops who got on the board first. Freshman Luis Palencia and Norzagaray led off with singles, and Palencia would later cross home on a Rodriguez RBI-fielder's choice for an early 1-0 advantage. After the Royals plated single runs in the second, fourth and fifth innings, Wesleyan battled back with scores of their own in the fifth and sixth to tie the score at 3-3 on Palencia and Riley RBIs.

Originally scheduled for seven innings, the game went an extra two frames. Senior Hayden Williams drew a one-out walk to get things started in the bottom of the ninth. One out later, Norzagaray lined a shot into the gap for a stand-up triple that easily scored Williams with the gamewinner, igniting a Bishop celebraton on the third base line.

Both starters earned no-decisions. For the Bishops, Norzagaray allowed three runs (one earned) on four hits over five complete, while offensively, he and Palencia paced NCWC with three hits apiece. Freshman hurler Spencer Ramsey (1-0) picked up his first collegiate win after tossing a 1-2-3 ninth.

Wesleyan (1-1) returns to action on Wednesday when the Bishops travel to St. Andrews University. First pitch is slated for 2:00pm.
