Diamond Bishops Cruise to 9-1 Victory over UMPI

Rocky Mount, N.C. - North Carolina Wesleyan's baseball team cruised to a 9-1 victory over the University of Maine-Presque Isle on Monday afternoon at Bauer Field. Sophomores Chris Rogerson and Ciro Norzagaray each drove in three runs to help the Bishops secure their second win of the season.

The Owls (0-1) got on the board first with a single run in the top of the third. Wesleyan countered with a three-spot in their half of the inning, highlighted by a two-run homer by Norzagaray, his first of the season. The Bishops padded their lead with three more in the fifth as Rogerson, Norzagaray and Marcus Kornegay each recorded RBIs.

Wesleyan went on to score two in the sixth and one in the seventh to secure the 9-1 final. Offensively, Luis Palencia, Rogerson and Norzagaray had two hits apiece for the Bishops, who tallied 11 hits as a team.

Freshman Spencer Ramsey (2-0) picked up the win in his first collegiate start, allowing one run on five hits and striking out six over 5.2 innings of work. Robert Mondoux, Daniel Carroll and Matthew Rhyne combined to toss a scoreless 3.1 innings out of the bullpen.

Dylan Worster (0-1) took the loss for the Owls.

Wesleyan (2-3) is back in action at Bauer Field tomorrow versus Washington & Lee University. First pitch is slated for 2:00pm.
