NCWC Baseball Suffers Series Sweep versus Hawks

Rocky Mount, N.C. - The Battling Bishop baseball team opened up USA South play at Bauer Field over the weekend with a three-game series versus Huntingdon College. The Hawks took all three games in the set, turning in 8-4, 4-3 and 9-4 wins on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, respectively.

In the opener, the Hawks simply out-hit the Bishops with twelve hits to Wesleyan's seven on the day, which resulted in an 8-4 HC victory. Tyler Clark paced NCWC with a 3-for-4 showing at the plate, while fellow senior Will Beasley (0-2) suffered the loss on the mound.

It was Wesleyan that took an early 2-0 lead on Sunday, but Huntingdon plated three runs in the fifth for a 3-2 lead. Two of the three runs were unearned after a crucial throwing error extended the inning. Both teams scratched a run in the seventh for the 4-3 final. Offensively, freshman Luis Palencia went 4-for-5 with two runs scored. Freshman Richard Harrell (0-1) took the loss, giving up three runs (one earned) on five hits and striking out six.

On Monday, the Hawks got on the board with a pair of runs in each of their first two at-bats for an early 4-0 advantage. The Bishops made things interesting with single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth to make the score 4-3, but HC answered with a four-spot in the seventh to put to rest any thoughts of a comeback. NCWC's Ciro Norzagaray was 4-for-4, while fellow sophomore James Lovett drove in two runs on a pair of hits.

Wesleyan (3-7, 0-3 USA South) continues USA South play next weekend with a three-game road series at Covenant College.
