Rocky Mount, N.C. - Freshman hurler Spencer Ramsey tossed a one-hit shutout versus Mitchell College on Thursday afternoon at Bauer Field, going the distance in a 5-0 Bishop win. Wesleyan went on to fight to a 1-1 tie with the Mariners in game two, which was called in the eighth inning due to rain.

Former Battling Bishop standout Travis Beausoleil made his return to Bauer Field as head coach of the Mariners (0-1-1), only to see his alma mater greet him with a five-spot in the third inning of game one. Ciro Norzagaray doubled home Luis Palencia to open the scoring, and Tyler Clark made it 2-0 when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. J.J. Rodriguez and Stephen Machin followed with bases-loaded walks, while Macon Hammond capped the inning with an RBI-single to left.

The five runs were more than enough for Ramsey (3-0), who allowed Mitchell's lone hit in the first inning. He went on to strike out four over seven complete innings of work en route to his third win of the season.

In the nightcap, both teams scratched a run in the sixth before rain shortened the contest in a tie. Jason Riley plated Norzagaray with a double to right for Wesleyan's lone run.

Starting pitcher Robert Mondoux went 6.1 innings, giving up one run on six hits with a pair of Ks. Dillon Moore, Matthew Rhyne and George Moore combined for the final 1.2 innings out of the bullpen, allowing just one hit and striking out two.

NCWC (3-10-1) returns to USA South play this weekend with a three-game set at Greensboro College.
