Danville, Va. - North Carolina Wesleyan's baseball team won its three-game set versus USA South foe Averett University over the weekend, taking the first two games of the series by 4-3 and 8-4 scores before falling in the finale 6-0. Sophomore Ciro Norzagaray delivered the game-winning RBI in the ninth inning of the opener, while freshman Spencer Ramsey moved to 4-0 on the mound after picking up the game two win.

In Friday's opener, the Bishops took a 3-1 lead into the late innings only to see the Cougars rally for a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth to knot the score. NCWC senior Hayden Williams proceeded to lead off the ninth with a single to left center, eventually advancing to third on a failed pick-off attempt and groundout. Norzagaray promptly delivered a two-out single through the left side to plate Williams with the winning run, and Matthew Rhyne (1-1) tossed a scoreless ninth to earn the win in relief.

Starter Ryan Grant got a no-decision, allowing two runs on six hits over 7.1 innings.

The two teams met for a doubleheader on Saturday, and Norzagaray wasted no time getting the Bishops on the board with an RBI-single in Wesleyan's first at-bat. The Bishops never trailed in the contest, with freshman Luis Palencia going 3-for-5 at the plate and senior Tyler Clark driving in two.

Unfortunately, the Cougars avoided the sweep by turning in a 6-0 shutout of the Bishops in the finale.

Wesleyan (7-15-1, 4-10 USA South) returns to Bauer Field next weekend to host a league set with Piedmont College on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Friday's opener is slated for 3:00pm, while both Saturday and Sunday feature 1:00pm starts.
