Lovett Powers Bishop Baseball to Trio of Weekend Victories

Rocky Mount, N.C. - Senior James Lovett went 7-for-10 with a pair of homeruns over the weekend to lead his Bishop baseball team to a sweep of CCNY on Saturday and a split with Roanoke on Sunday.

Versus the City College on New York on Saturday, Wesleyan posted 11-0 and 13-2 wins. Junior T.J. Wilkie (2-0) went the distance in the opener, allowing just two hits and striking out 12 over seven complete. Lovett went 2-for-2 with a homer and two RBIs to pace the NCWC offensive effort.

Game two saw freshman J.D. Makauskas (1-0) pick up his first collegiate win, giving up a pair of runs on three hits with five Ks. Lovett, along with freshmen Logan Andrews and Brandon Wheat, had two hits for the Bishops, who racked up 13 hits as a team.

On Sunday, Roanoke was able to post a 4-1 victory in the opener to end NCWC's six-game winning streak to start the season. Wesleyan countered with a 7-3 victory in the nightcap, highlighted by homers from Lovett, Wheat, and freshman Trey Croom. Lovett's two-run blast tied the game a 3-3 in the fourth, while Wheat put the Bishops on top for good with a solo shot later that same inning.

Croom's three-run bomb in the fifth helped senior Robert Mondoux (1-0) notch the win in relief.

In addition to Lovett's solid weekend performance, sophomore Jefferson Knight tallied six hits in 11 at-bats with a double, triple, two RBIs, and two runs scored.

Wesleyan (7-1) returns on action on Tuesday at St. Andrews College. First pitch is slated for 2:00pm
